This print depicts the historic Tygart Hotel in Elkins, West Virginia, which reopened in 2024 after being fully redeveloped.
While clearing out the building for construction, the crew found an old photo of the building’s facade along with reams of ledger paper for “the Night Auditor’s Report.” In 2023 I got to tour the building under construction while I was working on commissioned artwork for the hotel. I snapped a picture of the historic photograph and was given a few sheets of the old paper.
The resulting six prints from this very limited edition capture the image of the hotel in its days of disrepair. Each print is printed on the vintage paper from the hotel. Each print has unique flaws and imperfections from the torn vintage paper, and the color of the paper may continue to change over time.
